This weekend is for all levels, you do not have to be a teacher nor desire to become one. The Sutras will enrich your practice and understanding of this great tradition. If you are craving a deeper practice and understanding of this system called Yoga, then this is the weekend for you!
We all face obstacles in our Yoga practice. Using the most popular Yoga textbook, The Yoga Sutras of Patanjali, Shala will help you interpret the secrets for a healthier practice. Patanjali, this ancient master and sage, lists a host of obstacles, (including laziness, depression, self- doubt, expectations), that can hinder our progress on the yoga path. Luckily, he also describes how to work with these obstacles. Please join Shala as she makes the Sutras very accessible to all levels of practitioners. You will letting the sutras seep in on a deeper level through asana, meditation and journalling.

ANUSARA YOGA &THE POWER OF STORY with Senior Certified Anusara Yoga Instructors
Martin and Jordan Kirk
THIS EVENT IS HELD DURING OUR BELLE CHERE FESTIVAL IN DOWNTOWN ASHEVILLE. What this means is hotel/lodging will be fuller, as downtown is closed off for the musical events. Extra crowded restaurants as well. Book your lodging ASAP. This also means there will be plenty to do while not at the workshop.
Join Martin and Jordan for a celebration of the human spirit with a masterful yoga practice spiced with stories of great beings from Hindu mythology. When we weave stories with yoga postures, we allow the flavors of a deeper message to cook inside our own hearts, allowing our own interpretations and insights to be tasted in a way that gives ancient philosophical concepts a modern and practical meaning. All levels welcome.
Martin and Jordan Kirk are Senior Certified Anusara Yoga Instructors who travel abroad offering inspiring Workshops, Immersions, Anatomy, Therapy and Teacher Trainings. Martin has a Masters Degree in Biomedical Engineering and is the author of the highly successful book, Hatha Yoga Illustrated. Jordan has been deeply immersed in the practice of yoga since 1984. Jordan and Martin are currently co-writing an Anusara anatomy book due this fall. For more information: www.kirkyoga.com.

Originating from two classical Hatha Yoga textbooks, David will guide us through Energetic Anatomy and Kriyas in Yoga from the Shatkarmas. This weekend will include kriyas and satkarmas (cleansing practices) such as trataka, nadi sodhana, khechari mudra, kapalabhati, uddiyana bandha and agni sara, as well as introduction of nasal washing (neti). These techniques assist the body's natural process of detoxification through breath and respiratory cleansing as well as toning and shaping the organs and muscles of the abdomen. We will enhance the process of purification with surya namaskar (sun salutations) and chandra namaskar (moon salutations). Saturday afternoon will elaborate on the deepest relaxation possible through Yoga Nidra (deep relaxation/meditation/psychic cleansing). We will also look at the yogic life style that best supports these practices, as well as, when and for whom, these practices would be contra-indicated.

Shala has a deep yoga practice and teaching style that reflects over 12 years of study. She invites students to cultivate the exploration of the physical and spiritual realms. As a teacher, Shala offers a blend of the benefits of yoga in the alignment traditions of Iyengar, and flowing aspects of Ashtanga and Vinyasa, always including therapeutic yoga, yin yoga, meditation, pranayama and yoga philosophy. She embodies a balanced sense of grace, delicate flow, and attention to detail - a direct result of her passion for practicing yoga in nature and our innate connection to the Earth and the Cosmos. She inspires the student to touch their own yogic soul, bringing asana practice to life from within.

Indidcate which session in the notes section during check outJoin Heather in weaving these two very different styles of yoga into an integrated, balanced practice. Each workshop session begins with Yin Yoga, a quiet practice that encourages the body to open as each pose is held passively for several minutes. Yin Yoga targets the deep, dense connective tissues – the tendons, ligaments and cartilage, and activates the movement of prana through the core of the body.
Transitioning into the Yang practice, we seamlessly build on the openings and presence of awareness created in the Yin. Deep breathing, heat, and intense pose sequences in the Forrest Yoga style will take you deeper while cultivating strength, flexibility and energy flow in a balanced way. Yoking these mutually supportive yoga styles will leave you feeling fully at home in your body: energized, open, powerful and graceful.

No required reading, but David's Yoga Anatomy DVD is strongly recommended, we sell it for $38 at studio, or have us ship it to you for $40. Buy Now!
This is not another boring anatomy lecture, guaranteed!
Friday, October 10, 5:30-8:30 pm
Anatomical Ideas – This section lays down the foundation for the
information that follows. You will have a completely different view of how the tissues in your body are put together and function together.
We’ll cover principles of the muscular system, the fascial system, and
how the nervous system ties into the function of our body and its
movement in yoga.
Saturday, October 11, 8:00 - 11:00 am
Exploring the Leg - The ankle, knee, and hip create a kinetic chain
and the correct functioning of all joints is necessary. We'll also
look at the foot with its arches and their relationship to posture and
the asanas. The knee, its function and why there is so much potential
for injury here, and finally the hips and how the large tissues
surrounding this joint have their effect on the knee and the
functioning of the kinetic chain.
Saturday, October 11, 2:00 - 5:00 pm
Psoas & Spine - The spine is an amazing piece of architecture that
connects to the legs via the pelvis. We’ll look at that connection,
the pelvis itself, the sacro-iliac joint and how all of these come
together in the practice. We’ll also look at where movements actually
happen in the spine and where and how things go wrong in this
structure. Then we'll dive deep into the core of our body and look at
the single most important postural muscle in the body the psoas and
how this directly relates to yogic principles and concepts.
Sunday, October 12, 9:00 am - 12:00 pm
Breath and Arms - Breathing is a primary act of life and a link to the
outside world. It also links everything together in the practice.
We'll explore our own breathing mechanism. We also look at our
shoulder and arms, which are designed with movement of the hand as the
primary goal. We’ll take a look at some of the complex muscular system
helping to keep the shoulder together.
