Ashtanga is a challenging, flowing style of hatha yoga developed by Sri Pattabhi Jois. It consists of a fixed sequence of postures, designed to cultivate strength, flexibility, endurance, and a sense of stillness to the mind. This first series of Ashtanga includes many sun salutes (vinyasa) through out, followed by many forward bends, some inversions, and pranayama. Ashtanga challenges you to maintain ujjayi breath, energy locks, and a soft gaze throughout the dynamic practice. This vigorous class is open to all levels, and intermediate students will be offered more advanced variations so that everyone can discover their growing edge.
