Function & Fitness Yoga Workshop (IN-PERSON)

Rosie Mulford

September 3, 2022 | 2-4 pm

Saturday, September 3rd, 2022
2:00pm-4:00pm
All Levels Welcome
Cost: $35

In this two-hour workshop, we will learn how movement and exercise can support the movement patterns to help us function in our daily lives.

There are seven primal, functional movement patterns: bending, squatting, lunging, twisting, pulling, pushing and gait. Each one of these is an integrated movement which means that many muscles must work at the same time across multiple joints to perform a specific action. When these moves are performed correctly, there is a demand placed on the core muscles. This helps the different muscles involved to do their part in balancing muscle strength with muscle relaxation.

In this workshop you will learn:

  • Specific poses for bending, squatting, lunging, twisting. pulling, pushing, walking
  • How to combine these movements with traditional asana
  • Techniques for breathing properly to support these movements
  • Mind & body connection to help you in your everyday life

Come for an opportunity to join a special group of aspiring and experienced yoga teachers and serious students who are ready to deepen their practices and transform themselves into more effective and creative flow yoga teachers.

Bhakti means devotion to something higher than just ourselves. Whether it be toward a relationship, a family, a community, future generations or all beings, Bhakti is essentially the development of compassion, love, gratitude and equanimity.

Vinyāsa means to move skillfully with the breath. It is a set of principles that can help us accept where we are now so that we can move with integrity from one posture to the next in a flowing yoga sequence toward optimal well-being.

This teacher training will inspire or re-inspire the fundamentals of vinyasa flow yoga with a devotional aspect that will awaken the heart to love and peace. Students looking to become teachers, students who are currently teachers with or without previous training, or students simply having the desire to deepen their practice, will find this course inspiring and practical.

  • How to design and teach dynamic sequences
  • Teaching Ujjayi breathing (the inner and outer technique)
  • 5 Bandhas for functional alignment

In this training, we explore principle-based therapeutics, meaning that one thing builds on the next. This set of principles or actions in the body will help a number of injuries and imbalances that students may have.

Every session includes asana, anatomy and how to balance the musculature through yoga postures and healthy movement patterns. You will learn techniques to help students in both classroom and in one-on-one private settings. We look at “inner alignment” or how students align attitudinally, because the outer form always reflects the inner state on some level.

You will also learn how to empower your students, – so they can help themselves. Most importantly, together we’ll create a fun learning environment that allows our knowledge and body awareness to flourish.

Learning Objectives:

  • We will look at how the small injuries of the body connect to the energy body as a whole.
  • We will practice writing sequences for specific body types and conditions.
  • We will increase our understanding of how one set of instructions can help an array of different injuries and imbalanced musculature
  • You will learn techniques to help students in a classroom setting and in a one-on-one private setting.
  • You will learn how to help your students feel empowered, so they are more open to your help and feel they can help themselves.
  • We will target injuries and imbalances that we see in a yoga environment, such as sciatica, sacral iliac subluxation, low back pain and hamstring tears.
  • In the shoulder region, we will explore injuries such as rotator cuff injury, neck pain, carpal tunnel syndrome and more.
  • We will explore some of the most common injuries in the body in which their source is located in parts of the body in which most people do not have awareness.

Yin yoga is yoga done with a yin perspective in mind. The yin approach to yoga practice facilitates a receptive state in which you can explore your yin-side or the deeper layers of your mind and body. It’s a deep but also gentle and yielding practice which can connect us to the part of us that is more subtle and often hidden from view. There’s a certain type of wisdom that can be gained from taking this approach and during this weekend we’ll explore the following aspects of Yin Wisdom:

Receptivity: shifting from Doing to Being

Subtle Body Awareness: experiencing and enhancing the flow of energy through subtle energy channels (nadis) and regions (marmas/chakras)

The Shadow: cultivating mental and emotional health by witnessing and befriending mental and emotional samskaras (habit patterns)

Intuition: connecting with inner wisdom through the contemplation of symbols, archetypes, and other subconscious material given space to arise during the practices

During each session, participants will be guided through yin yoga practices, meditations, visualizations and self-inquiry practices to process the rich and potent yin-side material that has arisen. Integration exercises will provide opportunities for weaving the yin approach into your own personal practice and/or into your group offerings.

All who are interested in spending a weekend connecting with their Yin-sides are welcome to join!

This 6-week workshop series is inspired by Richard Rohr’s, “Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps” Throughout this series, we will explore The Twelve Steps as described in this powerful book and how they connect with Spirituality and Yoga. Join Rosie as she takes you on a journey to gain a deeper understanding of how the ancient principles in the Gospels and the modern-day Twelve Steps can help to free those who struggle with addiction.

Interweaving yogic philosophy and asana to “connect the dots,” this 6-week workshop will include discussion, movement, pranayama and relaxation.

This course is open to all recovery paths and no prior yoga experience is required.

We will unpack 3 major principles of addiction:

1. We all have a universal addiction to the way we think
2. We must recognize that we are already that which we seek to become and we already have that which we desire
3. We need to rid ourselves of the heaviness of the ego in order to see what we are and what we have

After studying numerous styles of yoga over the last 15 years, always with a leaning towards sustainable practices, Tucker now focuses on teaching the Kaiut Yoga Method. This method is focused on longevity and long-term mobility rather than quick fixes, and along with Tucker’s other studies serves as the inspiration for the content of this training.

This module presents twenty sequences for students to take away for home practice. It is complementary to other Longevity Yoga modules, but previous modules are not required in order to attend this one.

Designed as a practice intensive, this training will include 4+ hours of practice per day along with lectures and discussions that explore theory and technique.

What You Will Learn:

  • Principles of the Kaiut method
  • Unlearning Yoga to learn Longevity Yoga
  • Reframe the art of teaching, examine your approach to guiding students, and explore ways to improve
  • Study philosophy of Yoga and how it relates to this method

Please note: Kaiut teacher training can only be offered by the founder of the method. Therefore, this 300hr module is designed to be an introduction to Kaiut for teachers of other yoga modalities, and it will present information that is outside of but complementary to the Kaiut Method. This is the perfect place to start for those who are curious about the method. For those who practice Kaiut this is also an excellent way to dive deeper.
